In probability theory and statistics, the logistic distribution is a continuous probability distribution. It is derived from the work of Pierre François Verhulst (1804–1849), Professor of Analysis at the Belgian Military College, in modelling the growth of population in Belgium in the early 1800s. Verhulst's description of the growth of population follows the cumulative distribution function of the logistic distribution (also known as the "logistic ogive"). Population grows geometrically for small populations which have more resources than they need, then becomes constant as the resources become fully utilized, then becomes very slow as the population demand for resources exceeds the supply. The logistic distribution is closely related to the logistic function and the logistic equation which also follow from the work of Verhulst.

In 1980, he sold the company and joined the management consulting division of Coopers & Lybrand (now Pricewaterhouse Coopers).He is editor and publisher of Warehousing Forum, a monthly subscription newsletter. He is author of several books including Auditing Warehouse Performance, Warehousing Tips, Warehousing Profitably, a recognized reference work and Words of Warehousing, a glossary of the terms used in the field. He is co-author of Warehousing Fundamentals, a self-study program for managers.Amongst numerous expert by Mr Ackerman, some have been published in the Harvard Business Review and in The New York Times.Ken Ackerman has a B.A., from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.He has received numerous awards and he has been honoured by the leading organizations the industry for his contribution to the profession.In 2002, the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) honoured him with lifetime membership.
